Did you know that the silk thread forming a spider’s web is stronger than steel? The secret of the web’s strength is in the protein that forms the silk thread. The more fibers spun, the stronger the web. U.S. Army researchers have discovered that a spider’s line of silk can be stretched 30% to 50% before it breaks. It is stronger than steel and is similar to Kevlar in its strength. The army has used its research of the spider’s silk to design bullet proof vests and unbreakable tethers.
The spider is a cunning and patient adversary. When something becomes even slightly ensnared in its web, the master web spinner quickly moves in and spins more and more threads around it until the victim becomes completely and hopelessly entangled. Struggle as it may, the captive is powerless on its own to break free from the bonds of elastic steel that hold it until it is time for the spider’s next meal.
Similarly, Satan, the Prince of the power of the air, has God-granted power to entangle mankind in his web. Satan was granted this power because of our inherited sin nature and our own self-seeking, pride filled, sinful ways. In a sense Satan has been given permission to test the free will that God has given to each of us.
Does Satan have you entangled in his web? He sure did have me until the rider on the white horse of Revelation (19:11-21) used His finely hewed double-edged sword to cut the cords that held me captive. This does not mean that I am, or will be in this lifetime, free from sin. It does mean that I have been rescued from my deserved penalty for the sins I have committed. It does mean my sin debt has been paid in full and my eternity with God in Heaven is assured.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1 Peter 5:6-8)
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air…” (See Ephesians 2:1-2)
Because the Book of Revelation contains much symbolism and is prophetic in nature, it is sometimes hard to understand. For this reason, it is rarely cited in short articles like this to get God’s message across, especially to those who may not be familiar with the rest of the Bible. However, I think you will get the idea of what is being communicated in Revelation 19 to those individuals and nations that refuse to abide within the guidelines of the creator and sustainer of all things that exist.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) But please know there is coming a time when His patience will be over as you will see in below verses. “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”(Matthew 15:18)
Revelation 19:11-21 says: “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave both small and great.” And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.”
If you are trapped in Satan’s web of sin and death, know that the God of love and freedom has provided a way of escape which is still available to you now. He has the only double-edged sword that is capable of cutting the steel bonds of Satan’s web and setting you free. It is the sword of the rider of the white horse who we read about in the above paragraphs.
The steps to Christ are: confess and repent of your sins (be sorry for and turn from your sins. Acknowledge and believe that by God’s grace, through your faith, Jesus paid the ultimate price to erase your sins on Calvary’s cross.
The rider on that white horse is still patiently waiting, but as you can see in Revelation 19, there comes a time that He can wait no longer. Instead of cutting away cords of bondage, He uses that same sword, which is the truth of the Word of God, to let justice prevail on those who have rejected His offer of salvation and freedom because of their pride, disbelief and love of sin.
This is the verdict: “Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.” John 3:19-20
Will you turn away from the light because you love your sin, or will you humble yourself and turn to the light? For it is only in the light that you will find truth, forgiveness of sin and rest for your soul. Jesus said: “…I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Your love of money, the things it can buy, self-glorification for your achievements, status or titles often lead to the pride. This pride gives Satan the legal right to uses his steel cords with which he binds you. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18). For the sake of your eternal soul realize that you really deserve nothing and that: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…” (James 1 17) Turn, while you still have the opportunity, to the one who loves you and is capable of cutting the cords that bind you and truly set you free from the bonds of Satan’s web.
God wants “whosoever will” to become an adopted son or daughter of His eternal family. You’ve heard this verse before but please soak it in and know its promise is still for you today. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
The first step is a desire to be delivered. Then we must give our heart to God and seek deliverance through His Son. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
Read, “God’s Plan of Salvation for Man”, especially the back page to get a taste. Read the Bible to get a full meal.
Here are a few more promises from God that I will leave you with:
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;” And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32)
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jer. 29:13)
